We are currently seeking an Inspector Trainee to support our growing team in Virginia Beach.

Responsibilities:

The Inspector Trainee is an entry-level position with the responsibility of performing a variety of technical engineering support tasks. The specific duties include learning to inspect construction and maintenance projects and additional duties including,

• Develop and obtain knowledge, qualifications, and required certifications for roadway and bridge construction inspection using VDOT construction, safety, and environmental methods and processes, material testing procedures, and engineering principles and documentation.
• Become familiar with plans, specifications, standards, and related material.
• Perform construction activities outdoors, walking on uneven terrain and during all types of weather.
• Perform daily assigned inspections and reports and other tasks in a training capacity preparatory to assuming the duties of an inspector.
• Inspects excavations, drainage structures, road surfaces, and structures to compare the work performed to plans and specifications, conferring frequently with higher-level inspectors or engineering personnel to clarify or interpret details.

Requirements:

The Inspector Trainee qualifications for this role include:

• 2+ years of construction roadway or site inspection experience
• Must be able to obtain the following certifications within 90 days of employment:
  • Pavement Marking - VDOT
  • GRIT
  • Intermediate Work Zone - VDOT
  • Asphalt Field Levels I and II - VDOT
• A high school diploma or GED.
• A motor vehicle operator's license, valid in the State of Virginia
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
• Must be proficient in basic computer software.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Must be able and willing to work day and night shifts.
• Ability to physically perform essential duties such as walking, standing, bending, and lifting loads weighing up to 80 lbs.
• Required to work various shifts and on weekends depending on assignments.
