About the Role:

We are currently looking for a Consultant Inspector. This person will be responsible for conducting project engineering field inspections and providing technical support for engineering projects. The Inspector will recommend approval or rejection of materials, monitor labor and safety provisions, and maintain inspection logs and defect records. They will also provide project engineering technical support, including developing estimates, drafting contract modifications, preparing on-site correspondence and analyzing project schedules.

What You’ll Do:

  • Evaluate materials and workmanship and recommend approval or rejection based on contract specifications and quality standards.
  • Monitor contractor labor activities and safety practices to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop independent cost estimates to support project planning, budgeting, and change evaluations.
  • Maintain detailed inspection logs, track defects, and keep all required contract documentation accurate and up to date.
  • Prepare and draft contract modification documents and other official on-site project correspondence.
  • Analyze the project schedule on-site and prepare progress estimates to track construction performance and milestones.
  • Review environmental control measures and ensure project files are complete, organized, and include documentation of daily activities.

What Is Required:

  • 1+ years of experience as an inspector on a paving project and knowledge of highway construction practices, methods, techniques, costs, materials, and equipment.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices is desired.

The incumbent in this position can typically expect to sit and use his/her hands to handle and feel for more than 1/3 of the day. He/she can expect to stand or walk for more than 2/3 of the day. Talking and listening are also expected for more than 2/3 of the day. The ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, or reach with arms will be needed for less than 2/3 of the day.

This position requires that the incumbent be able to lift items up to 70 pounds on an infrequent basis.

The incumbent in this position should have clear vision at 20 inches or less. He/she should be able to view various reports and forms as well as information displayed on a computer monitor and have the ability to distinguish between different colors. Depth perception, peripheral vision, the ability to focus, and the ability to see from a distance are also necessary.
